Mallorca has a large number of museums, including some outstanding collections of artifacts and works of arts, displaying the islands cultural history with influences of the Romans, Arabs and Europeans as well as modern art of local and international artists. The Museu d´Art Espanyol Contemporani is one example of Spanish contemporary art. It is housed in an impressive Renaissance building in Carrer de San Miguel, which was remodeled in the early 20th century. The museum shows a permanent collection of seventy works by the most important Spanish vanguard artists of the twentieth century, such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí and some examples of innovative artistic movements by the most recent generation of Spanish artists. Moreover there is a gallery for temporary exhibitions with works by both, national and international artists. Current exhibition includes works of Carlos Cruz-Diez, who researched into colour. Cruz-Diez is one of the most important artists of the Kinetic movement and a leading contemporary artist. His works will be displayed in the museum until 27th June 2009. That is a good reason to visit Mallorca.
