The ones, who own a property in the areas around Manacor, Palma and Santanyí can count themselves lucky, since these regions received the most blue flags from the Independent Foundation for Environmental Education for having the cleanest beaches and the best infrastructure. In total Mallorca’s beaches became cleaner and increased their number of blue flags from 38 to 41 since last year. Manacor has the cleanest beaches on the island and has been awarded with nine flags, followed by the capital Palma de Mallorca with four, and the village of Santanyí with three flags. The Balearic Island of Menorca increased its number of clean beaches from eight to twelve. Majorca’s neighbouring island Ibiza lost six flags and now has twelve instead of eighteen. The survey is hold annually in beaches of more than 30 countries, in Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada as well as the Caribbean Islands.
