Places to visit in Mallorca on Sundays

Tourists who are visiting Palma de Mallorca often are surprised at how quiet the city is. Most of the museums, shops and department stores are closed. Window shopping is made impossible by the old Majorcan tradition of totally barricading the shop windows. In the past the Sunday routine for Majorcan families included attending church, lunch with the whole family, football and in some regions bullfights. Majorcans don’t stay in the city on Sundays; they usually spend the day at the beach, in their properties in the mountains or in the restaurants of the villages. Still there are many things to do in the capital on Sundays, as several great museums are open on Sundays and Bank holidays. The hills around the Castell de Bellver for example attract many excursionists. Like most of the museums the Castell de Bellver itself can be visited until late midday. Other museums, which are open on Sundays, include the Museu d’Art Espanyol Contemporani, the Museu de Mallorca and the Es Baluard Museum.
