Record numbers at the 6th international TUI marathon

The 6th International TUI marathon Palma de Mallorca recorded a new participant record number this year. Altogether there were 7,345 runners from 56 nations. These are 16 per cent more participants than last year. The Majorca marathon has developed into the most popular island marathon of the world by now and the organizers are very proud about this result. More than 7000 runners also many owners of a Majorca property couldn’t be deterred either from the gray clouds which at first still covered the sky. At approx. 15 degrees 1,348 runners faced the marathon and 2,883 runners the half marathon at 9 o’clock in the morning. Approx. 45 minutes later 1,514 10 km runners and friends of the Nordic Walking joined them. About noon the temperature increased to pleasant 20 degrees and even the sun came out. Also prominent participants could not be missing. In this year comedian and successful author Dr. med. Eckart von Hirschhausen started the 10 km run for his foundation “humor helps”. This foundation brings clowns for the encouragement of small patients in German hospitals in order to enhance their courage to face life again and to stimulate the healing process. Last year’s winner Miguel Capo Soller from Spain won the marathon again. He could shine with a best time of 2:30:58. The Spaniard Manuel Heraz Martinez ranked second with a time of 2:36:25 and the Austrian Anton Wippel took the third place for himself with a time of 2:37:22. The fastest woman this year was Jessica Purbrick from Australia with a time of 3:05:27. The second place took Sandra Huberty from Luxuxenburg with a time of 3:07:19 and on the third place was Ines Schuster from Germany with a time of 3:15:06. The winner of the half-marathon runners was also recorded by a Spaniard. The former marathon champion from 1995, Martin Fiz, took the first place with a time of 1:11:44. On the second place there was Toumi Dahmani also originally from Spain with a time of 1:12:08. 19 seconds later, the German Jonathan Harre won the third place. The female champion of the half marathon runners were the German Bianca Meyer with a time of 1:23:43. On the second place were Anita Pichler from Austria with a time of 1:24:07 and Marga Fullana from Spain got the third place with a time of 1:25:27. Already on Saturday the Unicef Kids Run was held, attended by 1,600 kids aged between two to twelve years. TUI donated for each participating child 5 euro. The donation amount was rounded up to 10,000 Euros at the end and went to the UNICEF relief project “Water for Niger – Every drop counts.” Who didn’t want to miss the 7th International TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca should be worked out very hard till the 17 October 2010. Next year there will be expect lots of tourists from all over the world beside all the Mallorca property owners.
